Why is Chrome not installing, I get the error "Failed to install file: not supported"?

I went to the official site of chrome. I clicked download, chose the .deb extension and chose open without saving. The installer is set to "Install Applications" by default.

What am I doing wrong?

downloaded .deb
put it in the chrome folder
went into the terminal
went to the chrome folder
write the command sudo dpkg -i * .deb
and everything should be ok.
(but it is not exactly)))
