A quick way to check machine availability?
Good afternoon.
I would like to ask: is there a quick way to check the availability of a machine?
Currently using ping with a 1 second latency, but polling all machines (more than 50) takes a very long time.
The pull server uses red hat linux, the polled machines are northern cabinets. It is possible to use the snmp protocol. There is no way to use third-party utilities other than stock ones in red hat.
Any ideas?

Any ideas?See if there is a fping utility in Redhat. If not, then use snmpget with the fractional -t option ( -t 0.001 for example). The last option checked in Centos 6.0.
