Why doesn't Zabbix server start?

I installed zabbix on Debian 8, created tables, tried to start zabbix server, but when it starts it gives an error Zabbix-server.service failed because the control process exits with error code. The status says failed to start zabbix server(MySql/MariaDB).zabbix server.service unit entered failed state. There are no files where the zabbix log file should be. What could be the reason?
