Why doesn't localStorage event on iOS Chrome browser work?

I noticed strange behavior, events from localStorage do not work in the Chrome browser on iOS. At the same time, they work in native safari (with some reservations that the timers fall asleep after a certain period of time in the background tab).
Demo (must be opened in 2 tabs).
Please check if this is so or am I just having something wrong with the settings?
