Why doesn't beep work in Linux via VirtualBox?

I am writing a script in bash, the program will convert the text to Morse code.
I use the beep speaker sound. I removed the speaker from the black list, installed the beep package, added volume to alsamixer. Zero sound. Windows has sound. I'm assuming it's because I'm running beep through the VM right?
