Why does windows 10 fall off when switching to UEFI boot?
Subject. I accidentally updated the bios on my laptop. “Secure boot: UEFI” turned on and the laptop stopped seeing all boot devices. Everything would be fine, but I have win10 on board, which should love and support this mode. However, the laptop becomes a corpse when "Secure boot: UEFI" and comes back to life again when "Secure boot: Legacy". My thinking is failing - why is this, and how to fix it.

what is set not in uefi mode will not work in uefi and vice versa. uefi is a completely redesigned base system and is not compatible with the classic "bios".
so if you installed windows in bios mode, then it will not start in uefi.
but there are sort of like mixed modes when both legacy and uefi systems are available for download
