Why does the jbl flip 3 wireless speaker need usb besides charging?

I soldered the flip 3 usb connector and noticed that in addition to the power wires, there are also data wires. Why is this needed? On the Internet I did not find any ways to use this connector, except for charging.

I can only assume that to update the firmware / service tasks / initial firmware. It can be updated via Bluetooth, but this is not very convenient at the factory.
