Why does the fingerprint scanner stop working in Lenovo Thinkpad?

Welcome all.

I have a laptop Lenovo ThinkPad E480 (Win10 pro). For a whole year I enjoyed the work of the finger scanner (instead of entering a password when entering Win10), and now it has stopped working - when trying to log in with a finger, it makes one (and always unsuccessful) recognition attempt, after which it stops responding.

I tried to reset to factory settings - it helped exactly for a week, that is, the scanner itself is working. Tried uninstalling/updating the scanner driver - didn't help. Where to dig?
