Why does LAN fall off in Windows 7?

For no reason, the Internet began to fall off. Helps to disable and re-enable the network adapter (Built-in Realtek). The computer is almost nine years old and the problem first appeared about a week ago. The only thing that has changed: I turned off a couple of hard drives and pulled out another network card that had been idle for a long time. I'm not sure what started after that, but the time seems to be approximately the same. There were no new software, drivers or Windows updates. What can be done before re-installing that second unnecessary network card without which everything worked before too?
