Why does a windows xp pc catch a dead freeze?

You turn on the PC after a while it just freezes. After a reboot everything is the same.

Perhaps the problem is in the curve assembly of the OS - put a clean OS first, and not an assembly from a known substance. Second: friezes are typical when the processor overheats (as already mentioned here), problems in the chipset, and usually they also happen with problems with the hard drive.

How old is the computer? Have you checked for clogging with dust, dried thermal paste, jammed coolers, swollen capacitors for a long time?
