Why does a hosting provider block IP addresses and prevent ftp login?
Hello!
A situation has arisen. Didn't notice this before. You log in via FTP for the first time normally, and then it doesn’t let you in the rest of the time - a connection timeout error.
I contacted support, they said that the blocking is due to the fact that I enter incorrect (!) Data. At the same time, I calmly log in with these incorrect (!) Data from other IP addresses, but again once - it doesn’t let me in the second time. What kind of nonsense?

This is a normal situation. Hosting is protected from password guessing (brute force). Brute force is a method of searching and cracking a password by sorting through all theoretically possible options, and this is far from always done manually :) So, rules are created for the mechanism, for example, a certain number of incorrect attempts to enter a password, after which a ban appears: to connect to hosting account, FTP, mail. There is temporary (temporary ban) and there is permanent (permanent). Banned usually by IP. You can contact support, ask to unlock. Why hosting clients are often banned in this way is because: they copy the password with an extra space, the entered password is stored in password autofill forms and browser cookies.
It happens that with frequent authorization attempts, even with correct data, they can be blocked. Set the ftp client to send NOOPs to maintain the connection.
