Why does a clipping mask remove objects inside? How to solve this problem?

I have a drawing that needs to be cut straight. To do this, I select the cropped area with a rectangle and click "Create Clipping Mask".

As a result, everything is clipped normally, except for the clouds. They disappear completely for some unknown reason.

Why can this be? How to make clouds stay?

Although the question already has a solution, but you can do much easier. You create a clipping mask shape on the desired layer (in your case "landscape"). The new shape will default to the very top. Do not select anything (and if it was selected, then deselect) and press the Make Clipping Mask button from the drop-down menu of the layers panel. This command creates a clipping mask from the top object for the entire layer, which does not care about the order of the sublayers and everything else.
