Google Tag Manager, in my opinion, is simply an indispensable thing for those who have a lot of all sorts of codes on the site (conversion, double click, and many others). In this case, the Tag Manager makes life much easier. Moreover, if the addition of each of these codes goes through the developers, it slows down the process sooooo much. But through the Tag Manager, even a schoolboy can add such an ordinary code.
But there are more difficult tasks: for example, I set up automatic tracking of clicks on external and internal links with recording anchors, as well as obtaining statistics on downloading files from the site. This is done using automatic events, where, unlike regular events in Analytics, you do not need to put a special code on the page directly for each event.
I wrote an instruction on how to set up such automatic events in the Tag Manager here (don't take it as spam, I don't make money on this, just trying to help those who are interested in such settings), and here is an article on how to install the Tag manager and tags web analytics.
I recommend a good instruction with examples of setting up GTM - aweb.ua/seo-blog/instrukciya-po-nastroyke-google-t...
A page with a description and a video that explains what it is: developers.google.com/tag-manager/
In short, this is a manager of counters and tracking codes for advertising campaigns and market research.
