Why do we need imagemin-jpegtran/pngquant plugins?

Installed plugin for Gulp imagemin, it compresses all images including png/jpg/svg. Why do we need these two plugins - jpegtran / pngquant ? How do they extend the standard features of imagemin ?

This is shown in the documentation . In short - they make it possible to adjust the compression

gulp-imagemin is just a wrapper that uses the optimizers themselves.
pngquant - for png (although the default is optipng )
