Why do some laptops and computers have a Core i5 processor?
I would like to know from groping people why many laptops have a Core i5 processor, and not a Core i7, when the price is very similar, but it happens that with the Core i5 the prices are even higher than with the Core i7?

Because you need to look not only (and not so much) at the number after i, but at the actual characteristics of the processors. Some i3s will be faster than some i7s.
cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php , as an example.
I will answer the question with a question: why install core i7? Better performance? And many people will be ready to pay several thousand rubles for these 5-10%, when most of these people even download i5 to 100% a couple of times in their lives?
In addition to the processor, there is also RAM, motherboard, video card, case, power supply, cooler and fans (at least). You can take the i7 and the rest "at a minimum" and get a car that will only work for certain types of work, or you can buy an i5 + cool video and get a kind of combine that outperforms the bare i7 in most everyday tasks.
Because the processor is just one part.
i5 with a good video card (gaming machine) is significantly more expensive than the same config with i7 without a discrete video card (a number grinder for work).
And with an equal price and gaming tasks, the i7 will eat extra money, because of which the video card will have to be taken worse, but it will not give any compensation in performance.
Do you really think that Intel is stupid and that's why they sell some i5 more expensive than i7?)
Okay, but what about the comparison, because a computer with a Core i7 will be better than the same computer with a Core i5?
As far as I remember, the same i5 has several variations that differ in characteristics. As well as i7.
Regarding laptops, do not forget about such a thing as heat dissipation. The i5 family (like the i3) is a line of processors with lower TDPs relative to the i7s.
