Why do many startups use the .io zone?

I often notice the io zone in small projects, what's so special about it?

Initially, the zone was created for the British territories in the Indian Ocean, the official decoding is Indian Ocean (Chagos Archipelago)
. The archipelago itself was torn away from Mauritius, the inhabitants were forcibly relocated by the British to Mauritius and the Seychelles, and now the Diego Garcia military base is located on the largest island of the archipelago, with which Iraq and Afghanistan were once bombed.
Recently, two new decryptions of io have been invented - Input / Output and Internet Organization.
And the zone began to be actively used for startups and media, sites on the topic of innovation and technology.
Of the well-known sites in the zone - meduza.io, zerkalo.io
Also in this zone, the creators of Unisender have placed their new service - unione.io - a service for sending transactional mail
Minimum prices for this zone start at about $30. At this price, the domain can be bought from sav.com and Cloudflare

As far as I remember, there are requirements for this domain, for example, porn and other content is not allowed. Plus, you fall under British law and you can be covered by a decision from London.
Therefore, I was especially surprised that all sorts of dubious p2p systems and crypto startups use this zone.
