Why do companies sit on linux and not on windows?
Good afternoon, in 3 out of 5 Frontend vacancies I come across information that everyone works on linux, they also require experience with it, etc., although some allow you to stay on Windows, but most, as I understand it, are strict about this.
What is the reason?
Why in general there can be such severity to use Linux?

Often, any OS can be used as a working machine, but web servers are mostly running under Linux.
And also containers are spinning under Linux.
under MS IIS the server can generally run internal enterprise solutions, rarely public portals.
So yes, Linux is where your application will most likely run, and experience with Linux is needed so that you can log into the server, look at the logs, debug.
If there is no automatic ci / cd, then lay out the application, fix the configs, run it manually.
Well, Linux is also free - many can simply save on licenses and equip their workplace with Linux.
Why in general there can be such severity to use Linux?
The operating system is not only a launcher of the necessary programs.
The requirements of a single operating system can be explained by the infrastructure built for it, in which the work of each employee is harmoniously integrated into the overall production process.
And Windows frontender simply does not need it.
At the same time, such vacancies weed out complete ignoramuses who did not sniff gunpowder outside of video courses. Solid profit!
