Why did services start asking to remove links to themselves from other services?

At one time it was considered cool if a lot of links from other resources led to your service. But for the last 2 years, I noticed that service support services began to write requests to remove links to their resources, because this could lead to sanctions from search engines. Moreover, these links are natural, inserted by users themselves into publications and comments. The link context is normal, purely informational, without any criticism of the resource that is being referenced. What happened, where did these requests come from?

This is the paranoia of various non-SEOs who, having heard enough rumors and speculation, do not understand the reasons for the sanctions and the essence of the links themselves, including. rush to change what they heard out of the corner of their ear.
Partly about the meaning of the quality of links can be gleaned from this Yandex-man
. In general, such a question for a search . Although the majority of CEO dreamers live there, they can neither substantiate their "own" opinion, nor even look and analyze the results.

Reasons:
1. Links from r..but sites harm SEO. Especially if such sites sell links through autosale systems.
2. Links can cause the page to receive anchor weight. A link with an anchor "scammers" is clearly not ice for the site.
3. There are mega SEO superspecialists who believe they have a unique formula for success. For example, they should have 25% anchorless links, and a link from your site is already 26% and all their troubles from this.
