Why can't I connect an external monitor to my MacBook Pro 13 (2017) using a Type-C to DisplayPort cable?

Hello.

I want to connect a MacBook Pro 13 (2017, without TouchBar) to a 2K Dell monitor via a USB Type-C --- DisplayPort cable. Type-C to a laptop, and DisplayPort to a monitor.

After connecting, nothing happens. The monitor shows that if the device is not connected soon, it will go into sleep mode. The monitor settings are set to connect via DP. Through the HDMI adapter everything works.

The other person had everything working through a MacBook Pro, I don't. What could be the problem?

Sticking DisplayPort interface lines into USB-C is a non-specific feature of the USB-C connector.
Not every USB-C connector will work this way.
If the description of your particular laptop does not explicitly say that you can do this - alas.
The same is true with PowerDelivery - it's not a fact that this technology is supported by the manufacturer in this device and on this connector.
