Choose as a headset => climb into the skype settings or what you need a microphone for.

If you are trying to connect a regular ("classic") headset, which has two plugs (separately for the "ears" and separately for the microphone), then the result is quite natural, since this laptop has a combined audio jack.
You need either an adapter from it to the "classic", or an appropriate headset (with one plug), or a microphone with a compatible plug. Some headsets from mobile phones may (according to the pinout of the connector), but you need to take into account new crazy "surprises" from manufacturers.
