I connected a microphone to the HiWatch ds-n104 DVR. But instead of sound, one background, I replaced the microphone with a similar picture. I checked the microphone on another DVR. The microphone is working. Sound is enabled in the DVR settings.

I won't even read the instructions - often in the regs the audio channel corresponds to the video channel No. 1. Just click on it and see if there is a microphone/speaker icon in the picture.

This is an IP DVR and it has a microphone input for two-way communication only. To write sound to such a recorder, an external microphone must be connected to the camera, which must have a line input. The camera will digitize the sound, and the registrar will take it from the camera along with the video stream.
