Why are they hearing me softly on Skype and what should I do about it?
Good afternoon, there is such a problem - my microphone works quietly, they hear me quietly in Skype. I checked the echo with a call to skype - the microphone really records quietly.
I have an Asus laptop under Win 8, the problem is observed with the built-in microphone and with two different headsets.
What I did:
1. Set the microphone gain +12db - did not help
2. Turned the gain in Skype - did not help.
How to increase the volume of the microphone?
How do your headsets work in general? Is it normal or is there a problem with the microphone volume?

Since the problem is on different microphones and headsets, then look at the drivers for the sound card, most likely there is a problem, perhaps some kind of noise reduction or auto-tuning is enabled on the sound card itself. To check, you can take a webcam from someone, they have a microphone with a separate usb controller, so you can be more convinced of the sound system
My microphone is on the table, at arm's length (looks out from under the monitor). You can hear me perfectly, cars passing by, and children screaming outside the window.
If you speak loudly, you can hear me from anywhere in the room.
In skype there is an automatic setting, in Windows + 20db.
IMHO, Skype has the best microphone auto-tuning and the best noise reduction I've ever seen. True for this, it loads percent.
Perhaps you had some kind of program for "fine" sound tuning bundled with your audio card drivers. I have it "Realtek HD Manager". I strongly recommend finding this wonderful thing (you can make an audio chip on the site), and dig deeper into the settings. Often, some strange filters, effects and other "improvers" are installed in the default settings. Pay special attention to "noise reduction" in all its manifestations.
The exact settings, of course, need to be adjusted to your microphone, empirically.
Turn off the auto-adjustment of the microphone volume in shitskype.
