Why are registry changes not being saved?

I want to increase the sensitivity of the mouse, despite the fact that in the mouse options, the pointer speed is set to maximum. I read that you can increase the speed through the registry editor at Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse\MouseSensitivity. After changing and rebooting the PC, the speed drops to the standard (medium in mouse settings), and the registry is restored to its previous value. How to be?
