Which web design and usability courses or books to choose?

Hey Habr.
At the moment I am developing my own website (blog). There seem to be no problems with layout and programming, but I am a useless designer. I would like to make a website with a somewhat ascetic flat design. In this regard, I take the opportunity to ask professionals what courses or books are available on web design and usability.
Courses are interested in free, because. currently there is no way to pay for it. Books are only in Russian, my English is not very good (I can read, but it's hard and long to comprehend). Do you know books like O'Reilly's Head First series? To make it easy and fun to read.
Thanks in advance. The question may have been a bit vague, for which I apologize.

1) "Psychiatric hospital in the hands of patients" and "About Face" by Alan Cooper, both available in Russian
2) "The Non-Designer's Design Book" by Robin Williams. And he also has several other good books with a similar title.
3) Circle "Don't make me think".

Just in case the question is still relevant! If you want to learn how to draw professional, harmonious websites that will fascinate, then I recommend free video tutorials on creating a website design from scratch from Alexei Zakharenko. I went through them myself and am very pleased. http://webdesign2.ru/main.html
