Which video converter to choose?

I want a free, simple (in terms of interface) video converter that supports anything and everything. This used to be freemake vd. But the fact that he now inserts ads at the end of the converted video does not give a buzz from use.
What are the alternatives?

@iproger

ffmpeg is not suitable.
avconvert is apparently not free.

What doesn't fit? He can do everything, or almost.
If you are confused by the lack of a gui, then look at AVANTI.
