Where can I download the MP4 H.264 codec for Windows XP (DirectShow) separately?

I would like to add to Windows Media Player support for the only video format that is really relevant today - the MP4 container and the H.264 AVC codec, and at the same time not to install fancy codecpacks, littering the registry and everything else with libraries to support fossil and exotic formats and the accompanying body kit. Advise where to download?
