Which processor to choose for a home number crusher?
Hello. I lagged behind the topic of iron, tk. I don’t do it closely, but now I need to assemble a universal home PC, whose tasks include not only simple surfing and watching movies, but also converting videos using ffmpeg (under Windows), launching a zoo of virtual machines, games, and other capacious tasks. The current Celeron G530 can no longer cope, to put it mildly. In this regard, the question is which line of processors to focus on, so that the CPU really takes out the load with some margin for the future, but at the same time, do not spend money on stupidly the top-end option, the prices of which, probably, can be in numbers with three zeros in dollars. AMD or Intel - it doesn't matter, based on the processor I will select the rest of the hardware. But I'm interested in such a moment - does it make sense to contact Xeon,

AMD Ryzen™ 7 1700 would be perfect. 8 full cores, 16 threads. The future is huge. If suddenly there is not enough, which I strongly doubt, it will be possible to upgrade to the top one or upgrade to it after the release of zen +. socket compatibility will be.
The blue ones from the new line at a comparable price lose in the number of cores / threads. Where the current Intel is loaded by 100%, then the Ryzen of this load is 60-70%.
Then there is a small problem with the fact that Intel now has thermal paste and not soldering under the lid, and in general they are hotter, unlike ryzens.
In general, at the moment it makes sense to look towards ryzen, especially for a long-playing assembly.
