Which MacBook Pro should I get to work with Xcode 7?
Hello. Need a MacBook Pro to work in Xcode 7 on Swift and Objective-c. Advise what is better to take:
- mid 2012 without retina and upgrade to 16 GB of RAM and SSD,
- or still take 8 GB with retina and SSD (2012-2013)? Retina with 16 gigs of RAM will not pull $$$.
The laptop is for development purposes only. And I now doubt which option will be better in terms of performance ...
PS I do not consider mini, air, imac options.
Thanks

No SSD now. No n-core processors and super-fast RAMs can compare with solid-state ones in terms of speeding up the system and all applications. Xcode, especially the latest versions, is quite resource hungry. Retina-not retina - it's your choice, with retina the screen is beautiful, but still there is not enough space on it in Xcode, so it's possible with a regular screen + an external monitor.
mid2012 the screen is shit. 16 gig RAM and SSD fix the performance, but the screen is not suitable for normal operation. 1280x720 in 2016 is somehow um .. I speak as a former owner - after a year of work I changed it to mid2014 rMBP 15 "at the first opportunity - a fairy tale with a song now. But if an external monitor does not bother (it turned out to be more convenient for me with a laptop), then 2012 with upgrades still quite pull
Retina needs to protect vision. And without an SSD and 16G, you can endure. Development is not video editing and not playing games, printing and looking out in general.
In the spring I changed the 12 year old to the retina 14 year old - the difference is colossal. And it's not just about speed. The retina display is not only a higher resolution, it's even greater viewing angles, sitting down at a regular monitor, now I'm surprised how long it takes to select the optimal angle. Battery life in subjectively similar situations differs by an hour or two. Less weight and thickness lightened my backpack, which in the summer is often nothing else.
PS In my configuration, 8GB of RAM, I do not experience any difficulties.
