Which Linux distribution to roll on a netbook?
A friend has an asus eee pc 1011cx netbook
. will buy ssd into it.
He described his tasks, it is also clear that the netbook is a slow thing.
Therefore, he decided to try Linux, because the performance should be higher.
I myself prefer ubuntu, but the unit is quite loaded.
Therefore, I plan to install linux mint with the mate shell for the time being. It is also closer to Windows in terms of interface, it will be easier to understand and less loaded than units.
But maybe you can recommend something else?
What distribution would be good for this model?

Yesterday I installed debian with Xfce on my eee PC, the flight is normal. It is possible and mint, there the software will be fresher.
I experimented long and hard with operating systems on my netbook . The first thing that came to my mind was to install mint with mate. Worst decision in my life. The brakes were the wildest. Then I tried debian with xfce - in general, not bad, but not that. Then I tried the same thing, but with lxde. The netbook began to work noticeably faster. The next step is arch with openbox and tint2. Excellent performance. Nothing extra. Everything is working. After that, gentoo caught my eye. Reading about the features of installing software, I thought that I should try it. But gentoo is "cactus" and can't be installed without tears, so I googled and found calculate. Openbox, tint2 rolled onto it and the netbook began to work even more vigorously than on arch.
Install ElementaryOS.
Handsome and light.
True, you definitely need to try to check it in Live first.
Run in Live mode one by one and make a decision!
OS ceases to be a bottleneck when you first start the video on a flash player.
Given that there are only 2 distributions left in Linux (slack and gent), only gent compiled in root under qemu can be installed on a weak computer.
I have a netbook with a stone atom n455 1 GB RAM. I tried a bunch of distros and settled on Ubuntu 10.04 netbook remix + Xfce. I will explain why: The latest versions of popular distros are godlessly slow, and the previous ones do not exit the standby mode. Of the minuses of 10.04 is the lack of support and rap.
