Which Linux distribution to put on a netbook?

There is an acer aspire v5 netbook with an Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 1017U @ 1.60GHz with 2GB RAM
which distribution kit would you recommend to be light and popular (you need to find a balance here) and work smootly

Something on XFCE or LXDE (the second one is less demanding). Distribution to taste, for beginners - Ubuntu (that is, Xubuntu or Lubuntu).

Puppy\PuppyRus, extremely miniature, beautiful, not demanding and will run very briskly on such hardware. Any KDE\GNOME environments will stutter, lxde\xfce will work on any distro.
If for some reason you don't like the puppy, then try opensuse with lxde\xfce because suzka is still more friendly for beginners because of yast'a =)
