Which Linux distribution to choose for media?

Greetings!
There is a Windows netbook 5c40444eb0fb0638318930.jpegterribly slow on it.
I would like to put something very light, smart ... I stopped at Linux, but I got confused in a variety of distributions.
What is better for a beginner to surf and simple tasks: viewing photos, videos, audio?

If you don't know what to install - install Debian.
UPD: But with a lightweight desktop environment like Mate, Xfce or LXDE.

There are two working options for a laptop with the N455 process.
1. Throw away the laptop
2. Nothing will work there except DOS

The browser does not pull this config. It is necessary to at least add memory and save a little SSD.

Just yesterday I was trying to solve the same problem. true memory 2G.
linux (ubuntu and centos) slowed down like ... stopped at Windows7 :) Although at 1G it can be VISTA

Ubuntu 10.04 will probably slow down within tolerance.
It makes no sense to install more recent Linux on such hardware - no modern browser will still want to work normally on Atom with a gig of memory, no matter how light DE you put under it.

Puppy Linux + FluxBox (BlackBox) + Pale Moon (Otter Browser)
