There are two working options for a laptop with the N455 process.
1. Throw away the laptop
2. Nothing will work there except DOS

linux (ubuntu and centos) slowed down like ... stopped at Windows7 :) Although at 1G it can be VISTA
Ubuntu 10.04 will probably slow down within tolerance.
It makes no sense to install more recent Linux on such hardware - no modern browser will still want to work normally on Atom with a gig of memory, no matter how light DE you put under it.
