Which is better to study contextual advertising or SEO first?

Good afternoon!
I recently became interested in website promotion, I decided to try myself in this field, moreover, in freelancing. It is interesting to know your opinion, why is it better to enter this profession - with contextual advertising, direct, or start with SEO?

I started creating my own site, studied php, html, wrote my own engine 10 years ago (then I learned about WP and thought what was wrong with me, why did I write my own code when there is an awesome ready-made solution). I did everything for my site, SEO, SMM, Context. Then he began to look for clients in all directions.
The direction of creating sites and refining fell off very quickly, I'm not a coder after all (although I love it very much). Further fell off SMM. Left SEO and Context. Gradually I began to delve into SEO, as the context is rather boring for me. Now for several years only SEO for clients.
For my projects, I still set up sales channels in all areas myself, with rare exceptions.

Freelancing is usually done by people with experience. When there is a certain amount of knowledge and experience. Who needs you there with only one desire? Go somewhere for a company as an intern or practice on your site. And it's better to make a couple of dozen and experiment. And when at least some results appear, you can look for orders.
This is a difficult profession. What schoolchildren write about her online and what she really is are two different things. When it comes to judicious use of hundreds of thousands of dollars of budgets, who would mess with a beginner?
first you need to learn the basics of the web, so that words like "meta tags" or "301 redirect" do not raise questions.
