Should tags be indexed - pros and cons?

I have tags. For example nuts, raisins, dried apricots, etc. Tags have their own pages, on which I display previews of linked pages (for example, on the nuts tag, I display previews of pages tagged with the nuts tag).
The question is, should I index tag pages. As if I understand what it's worth. But I saw that some are closed. I want to understand the pros and cons of these two approaches.
