Which home media storage solution to choose?
Based on the title:
You need a home storage from which you want:
Storage of photos, videos, music, documents. Ability to download torrents.
Homes from technology: 1 hospital, 1 laptop (periodically 2 with mine), 2 smartphones, 1 ipad, 1 Samsung TV (as far as I remember the 3rd series) - should be friends with all this.
because Internet speed is not very high, torrents will be regular, a minimum noise level is desirable.
I work in QA myself, so I can connect and configure, but I can cut out my own Linux assemblies (maybe I argued stupidity, but all this is voodoo for me, this link turned out to be unbearable - toster.ru/q/24641,"If you need centralized storage, then it would be great to put some kind of separate NAS server on which SMB will spin to access files from computers and torrent" - too complicated). If there are clear manuals like: "Download here, install here, write here." - come down.
And last but not least, the target audience is basically a mother and a younger sister, every visit I feel like a support service - a fixer. So independent viability is being developed and its comprehensibility to mere mortals is obligatory.
Connect it to a computer and stream it to a TV, or connect it to a TV and stick a wi-fi board into the hospital?

You can take WD My Cloud and put Transmission on it . I'm buying it myself the other day (although I'm not going to download torrents).
MiniITX board + memory + case - you can meet 5000 rubles.
Disks to taste.
Put something like FreeNAS.
You can put some kind of ubuntu with XBMC - then you will also get an excellent media player.
For torrents - transmission-daemon + Transmission Remote GUI.
For Samba shares (AFP, FTP, ... whatever you need)
UPD: After assembly and configuration, you get an end device for ordinary users. There is nothing to break there.
I came across this rating . True, it is not entirely clear what has a screw here + makes friends with a TV + can download torrents. After a little investment on the Internet, it became clear that these are the main points.
1. Make friends with the storage with a Samsung smart TV 3 series.
2. Must be able to download torrents independently.
3. Simple interface for non-IT people.
PS: Maybe someone knows, WD My Cloud - you can make friends with torrents when your computer is turned off?
