Home NAS from an old no beech?
No beech Samsung N150 (NP-N150-JA01UA) Screen 10.1", 1024x600 / Intel Atom N450 (1.66 GHz) / RAM 1 GB / HDD 160 GB / Intel GMA 3150
Not used as unnecessary, do not want to sell because it costs a penny + the soul of a hoarder does not allow =)
There was a desire to make a home NAS out of it (the screw can be changed + deliver RAM up to 2 GB) it is clear that without a hardware RAID. Mostly photos will be stored, + a torrent rocking chair and watching movies from it on a tablet, if it pulls "Perhaps I'll put one IP camera on it (in the future).
Please advise which axis to choose for this whole thing. And in general, is it really pulling or is it better not to bathe? Maybe there are ideas for what it can be attached to, I'll be glad to hear.
P.S. Will it be possible to organize a software raid on it (0 or 1), while the second screw was connected via USB.

Drop this idea. The speed of such a storage will be much to be desired (and you will not do a raid in any way).
This raid was given to you, set up backups. Let them sync in the background. On the other hand, I don’t think that you will buy a hardware controller that is sane for raid, and those that come in chipsets, well, they are for show, it’s generally better not to mess with them.
I installed xpenology for myself, set up backups for critical data, since they are there and I don’t suffer. Although I started everything on the HP Microserver Gen7 N54L.
I can advise OMV (Open Media Vault). Debian core, top of the web GUI and the ability to create a NAS of any complexity. The system does not require much for itself, but it will be able to raise software RAIDs of any complexity. It goes without saying that it can backup everything you want and keep virtual machines (vbox), and antivirus, and torrent (all this stuff has its own web gui).
I think now everyone is familiar with the Debian console? if not, then web gui omv can allow even a normal windows user to work with the system. I said everything =)
1. NAS with backup to an external screw
2. torrent
3. if there are several computers - print server
4. through the adapter you can record telephone conversations
5. clock, Internet radio, alarm clock, calendar, mail somewhere in the kitchen + recipe book
6. all immediately =) if it pulls
Put linux, xbmc into it, a torrent downloader with remote control and you get a media server
