Which area of programming is more promising: web or desktop?

I can’t decide on the field of programming, because of this, and with the first language, I studied algorithms and data structures, read McConnell, I haven’t reached Knuth yet. Which area is more promising, in the next 3-4 years I focus more on freelancing.

Web of course. As soon as the power of mobile devices, cloud services and desktop computers increases, the bandwidth of Internet channels increases, then there will be one browser everywhere. And we will all write in JS :''(

I think that a good developer in both areas will not be left without work. Both areas have room to grow, here's where the soul lies more.
I've been on the web since about 2010, a lot has evolved over that time and more is yet to come. For example, such goodies as webgl, three.js, html5 are gaining more momentum. For desktop, I'm sure the situation is similar.

WEB development is also very different. You may have development of server solutions, network services, etc. Or maybe just sculpt websites or write clients. Desktop development can also be systemic and applied (client programs to figure out). In any case, programming languages are by and large the same here and there (C++/D/Go/Rust/Java/C#), and as a result, it will not be difficult to move from one area to another.
If you are interested in riveting sites ... then decide for yourself.
