If you want to be cool, then look for old abandoned programming languages, there are almost no competitors there and there is a certain need for support for creepy legacy.

Rust/C++ on the market will be pretty cruel, but either it will put your brains in place or you will want to become loaders
2. Finding a task or a place with tasks for which there is a need for languages ​​will help you decide
3. A NEW programming language this is all so clear - there is almost no competition, whether it will shoot or not is a question, but in a year you will be cooler than those who poked their head in later.
An example is not very new - Scala, Kotlin - are now on the rise.

IMHO in java somehow more definitely with the career ladder.
