Where to look for customers for a novice freelancer?

Himself a novice freelancer, it is difficult to look for orders. I tried it on fl.ru and analogues, but I managed to take only a few simple works. How did you get started in your freelance career?

Do not believe that a person without reviews and most likely with no English will be able to break through thousands of top rated Indians on upwork, this is extremely unlikely. Therefore, it is best to start with a local web studio, work for six months or a year and you can go remote or move to a large city, learn English at the same time, and then it will be possible to start monitoring upwork in the evenings (although by this time you can get a normal salary in Russian offices) .

Acquaintances plus word of mouth.
Exchange did not use at all.

Do not work where there are millions of people like you.
Specialize in one thing and it is desirable that you have no competitors.

Try to start on https://work-zilla.com , it's easy to start there without a portfolio, but there are customers from whom many tasks will fly past the service
