Where to go freelancing, in which country?
Hello! The question, of course, is not new, I read the answers to the questions that I found, but I am worried about one moment, how to meet the budget.
Now I work remotely, I receive 1000$, I live with my parents, I don't have my family. Our city is small, boring, I sit at home all day)
I want to go live in different countries, will my salary be enough to live in Thailand / Malaysia / Indonesia, I chose these countries because I heard they are the cheapest.
First I want to go to Malaysia, to improve my English, because I can only read it, unfortunately I find it difficult to speak it. I want to improve my language there, enter the environment, so to speak, and then go to Thailand or Indonesia.
So what would be the advice? I am especially interested in such questions: how to rent an apartment, how to look for it, how much is the average price, so that the Internet is normal there and the most important thing, of course, is my budget enough?

They troll you a little =)
$1000 bucks is not a very big amount, but it's quite possible to live alone in different interesting places.
Here, for example, is a funny option: Kazakhstan/Astana. Young, modern city. Last year I lived there for 5 months by accident, and I must say, I was delighted. Himself from St. Petersburg, I compare with him.
The country is Muslim, but this is noticeable only by the fact that the blues do not stagger around the streets and do not sit in the courtyards of gossip. It's nice to walk at any time at night. Babies without adult supervision and mothers with strollers walk until 2 am. People themselves are kinder than in St. Petersburg. I had a culture shock when I returned. I sat at home for a week - I did not want to leave.
Prices are low for everything. Eating is practically free. I tried the best shish kebab in my life there, in an excellent restaurant, where locals don't go, because. expensive. The kebab cost 150 rubles.
Transport - buses. But in 5 months I went by bus 1 time. Because Uber is free. Once I had a chance to drive the whole city diagonally on a Porsche Cayenne for 100 rubles! It's Uber X, not Black.
Kazakh women are very beautiful girls and love "farangs" =)
The climate/weather is wonderful. One caveat - there are no demi-seasons. Summer, and then immediately the snow fell =)
Housing is different. I got a little fat and rented a huge bright new apartment in a good area. For the money, somewhere around 30k + came out. Internet is awesome. During my stay there, the Expo 2017 exhibition was taking place, so the prices were very high. The exhibition was over, they should have fallen heavily.
In general, for $1000 you can live very comfortably there. There is only one problem - a visa. Entry without a visa, for 1 month. Then you need to go to the migration office with the owner of the apartment (you need to agree with him to make you a guest visa). It is extended up to 3 months (that is, the first + 2 more). Then, in any case, a border run is needed. Well, new. No freezes.
Thailand (it's been here for 4 months now). You can live on $1000. Everything depends on the desired level of comfort and the love of spending money =) I do not advise Pattaya. My opinion is that it's a complete dump. Tons of great places. As a budget option, I would advise Krabi to try. There are few beaches in Krabi, there is nothing special to do, but it is calm and cheap. The best thing to start. And in order to learn how to ride a bike - the traffic is good, calm, the roads are high. You can rent a house for 8-9 baht (in rubles, roughly, x2). Think 20k will fit. It is important that with a kitchen. Thai food will get fed up, you will start walking along expensive restaurants. At some point, I started to drain 1-2k baht a day for havka =) Horror. Bike for a month 3k baht. Beznin is cheap, the bike hardly eats. Treat yourself - it depends. It is possible to keep within 100bt. Average for a kid, I would say 200-250bt, if with beer (in restiks it is 2 times more expensive than in a store). Eating at home is cheaper, there are big stores to stock up. In general, it is quite possible to live on $ 1000, if you don’t go on a spree especially. But it can be very easy for you to take a walk. It is much easier (and cheaper) to get a secret in bed here than in Russia to bring a cute girl to the cinema with a restik without any further prospects. So first of all, self-discipline =)
If you want something noisier, so that there is more movement - you can try Phuket or Koh Samui. Phuket is expensive from the tourist side (in the west of the island), but if you settle in Rawai, you can also be very budget friendly. There are good condominiums, where the most excellent apartments for 8-9k baht. But really very good and with a kitchen. Koh Samui is considered an expensive place, but "you need to know the places." Tourists are driven into simple housing for a lot of money, knowing the places you can rent a beautiful house for 10-15k baht. House! With air conditioning, giant balcony, 2-3 rooms, etc. There are a lot of Russians on Koh Samui (more than Thais, according to sensations), Russians of all sorts - from bydo-addicts-bukhariks, to families with a bunch of kids, etc. For some, the presence of compatriots is a plus, for some it is a minus. But in your case it may be a plus - more help, advice, support, etc.
In general, the main thing is to start. I sincerely advise you to first save up a small stash of money so that you can provide at least a couple of months of life and do not have to go home as soon as everything is over.
feel free to come to our condo in Thailand
and we will decide everything with housing and freelancers live with us mostly
What city are you from?
I am now in Indonesia on about. Bali, already the 3rd month. If briefly, then 1 thousand bucks is enough for a butt (earnings are several times more). And don't forget, you should always have money for emergencies. Although, to be honest, I don’t really see where the money is spent here.
Costs are made up of the following expenses if you are alone:
1) Tickets, visaran tickets. If you fly through some country, for example, Thai, then in Bangkok you can get a social visa and stay on the island for up to 6 months.
2) Insurance is a must everywhere in Asia, medicine is very expensive. The cost is from 2 thousand rubles per month, and 6-7 thousand with motorbike coverage, if you have rights and sports insurance. I have sports insurance.
3) Visa extension - 2500 rubles per month through an agent. you can bathe yourself, but it’s lazy to dangle very much.
4) moped - 2500 rubles per month + gasoline per thousand somewhere if you travel a lot
5) The main thing! Housing. In my area, this is a surfer hipster area, housing on average 12-20 thousand rubles for a room in a guesthouse, a room in a villa is more expensive. The closer to the ocean, the more you pay.
6) Nutrition. It is worth noting that the products here are different. Some are more expensive, some are cheaper. Sometimes it's cheaper to eat somewhere, there are enough snack bars for any wallet. Now we eat during the day in a cafe where prices are comparable to business lunches in Russia.
Dairy sucks, tastes bad, and is expensive. no dairy products.
pork and chicken are also tasteless, but the price is the same as in Russia.
there is everything from the states, brazil, italy, spain, etc., expensive.
Rice - fruits - vegetables - in bulk and cheaper than in Russia.
There is bread, but not so tasty as in Russia.
7) communication - 300 rubles a month
8) Surfing lessons - 40-50 dollars a lesson, you need 3 lessons in order to ride yourself. Board rental - 250 rubles per set (3 hours). I bought a board for
myself it's an expense if you live here. If you travel, then the costs are much higher. As you can see, you can live here on 1K dollars. On the plus side, I surf every day and I really like it.
If we consider from the post-Soviet space (without learning the language), in my opinion, the most successful city for freelancing is Tashkent, at the cost of living for 1k you can live like in Astana for 5k. That year, for a table for 6 people in a popular restaurant (meat, kebabs, beer, wine, salads, etc.), I paid $ 25 for six, and we didn’t eat half of it. In general, the city is chic, the climate, in general, live and be happy ...
The same can be said separately for Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. A good place for freelancing + there are very few web development offices in Bishkek (if you are a developer or a web master), you can even find your own niche there, open a mini office, there are a couple of offices in the city itself, and then the services provided are outdated by 5 years - exactly. Take the same hoster.kg, and the demand for the web is now in its infancy ... with the execution of tight, a couple of times he took orders from Kyrgyzstan, of course, there are some nuances, but everything was decided ... Well, the most important plus from Bishkek to Issyk-Kul is easy to fall, the rest is excellent... the climate is good! You can save and additionally find new customers, but do not know English)))!
There was an experience, we lived in Pattaya for some time, then moved to samed, a very quiet place, a bungalow with wi-fi - the issue price is 15k THB. In the future, plans to make a circle through Vietnam. If you are drawn to travel, then do not hesitate to get ready.
1. Maybe it's better to buy a satellite phone, solar charging and go to Africa? Warm, delicious, ...
For "one salary" you can rent land, build a house (beams), and still remain (to feel rich, white, a person). You can rent a boat there. Or to other more peaceful (safe) places.
2. My friend was thinking of moving to Japan (where workaholics are valued and not looked down upon).
3. You can get a job on an expedition on a boat (IT specialist, radio operator, cook, ...) for havka. Or just a tanker. Also a lot of free time and foreign ports.
4. Look for a job "need a person to do nothing" in another country.
To rent an apartment... It means to change one coffin for another - "the Turkish hotel has opened the gates of paradise...". Malaysia and Indonesia - they can be beaten for violating the "taboo" (we can also, and the probability will grow :). It is in old age that you need to go to such places, look after a place in the cemetery, tame people so that they follow the future grave, flowers there, paint the fence. So far, there is no better experience somewhere safer and kinder to people.
After school, I dreamed of wandering around abandoned places with a laptop, making territories (buildings, landscaping, ...) for shooters, but there is no health for that and other dry things ... :(
So I wish you success.
This is how brains float. Soon only I, deputies and thousands of Chinese will stay in my country :(
In Thailand, you can live at a minimum, but it is sometimes difficult to work efficiently because of the heat.
Save $200 out of $1000, live on $800. This is approximately 25k baht per month. Not much.
I paid so much only for a good hut in a complex with a swimming pool on Koh Samui when renting for a long time, from six months. But Koh Samui is like an expensive tourist island.
Regular expenses: food, bike rental, entertainment.
Plus one-time expenses: flights, good medical insurance (do not ignore), payment for English courses.
Malaysia - the same minus for work: it's hot. It's not fun to sit under the air conditioner all the time.
Have you thought about Finland? :)
If you look towards Asia, then the cheapest option is probably Vietnam. In addition, in a number of provinces there are enough Russian speakers. You can google all the information yourself. Thai as an option too, but it is more expensive.
Learn English :)
I strongly doubt it. The market is formed by demand. Offices operating in the local market for local customers work for gum, and provide services 5 years ago. There are also offices operating at the world level, they smoothly turned around abroad.
The lion's share of hosted sites are ordinary business cards, open source engines, an average turnkey development case from 150 to 600 bucks.
The season in Issyk-Kul lasts two months. from June 15 to August 15. +/- week. At this time, half of Bishkek + tourists go to the lake, there is nowhere for an apple to fall on public beaches. Romanaaantics. And the prices are such that it is cheaper to fly to Turkey or Egypt
Yes. Gold rush, not otherwise
I repeat: learn English and look towards South East Asia. The minimum knowledge of the language is enough.
For comparison: in Bishkek, monthly spending is comparable to spending in Kual Lumpur (Malaysia), along with weekly excursions to visit attractions / entertained. Only in KL there is a guarded condo, a swimming pool, a rocking chair, a sports ground ... + within walking distance of cafes - shops - city malls - metro. And in Bishkek - the usual soviet yard.
ps: if you are in Bishkek, I will treat you with a lagman. Well cam, che)
There are two life strategies:
1) Tie yourself to current income and look for some hole where it is cheaper to live in order to spend less money. And don't ask for more.
2) Choose a good, comfortable, expensive place and raise your income so that you can live there no worse or better than others.
You choose and consider the first one. Think again, maybe the second strategy will be more to your liking.
Environment - it also tightens, either up or down, depending on what kind of environment.
From personal experience: I remember when I first moved to Moscow, then for me at first the big problem was to buy new shoes for myself on the market, but I’m generally silent about a laptop. But after a certain time, twice a year, he flew to Europe to rest.
In addition to Moscow, there are many more interesting and comfortable places in the world and, at the same time, cheaper ones. Asia for an amateur. If you are a fan of Asia, then of course you are there.
In Tae, one is enough for the eyes. 5 thousand baht for a bike and 10 thousand baht for housing per month will go.
Why freelance for $1000? So many homeless people in the states get. Leave for any country, for example the USA, where programmers are paid about $10,000. You can see the vacancies yourself.
1000 is not a lot, but for Thailand and Vietnam it will be enough, and there you will go around Asia yourself without any questions
Consider Georgia.
Because it is also warm, cheap.
Small taxes, close to Russia.
Southeast Asia is not at all a fact that it will do.
A very normal option is to go try to live, for example, in Tai and Bali for six months. Of course, you won’t show off with a mower, but it’s quite enough for yourself and in comfort. If you have not been abroad, then this year (and without risk to work) will open your eyes to the world very much, your horizons and perception will expand many times over. Then you will have to think and choose where and what you like. Earn more and go to civilized countries or live under the sun by the ocean in Asia. While young and easy-going - move, try to look and absorb as much as possible. Especially with remote work, it's generally no problem.
Detailed prices for accommodation in Bali can be found for example here .
