Where is the noise on the motherboard?

Some kind of throttle is cracking (presumably) on the asus p5k ... How to find which one?
PS most likely in the power supply circuit, because the frequency of the crackle changes in proportion to the load.

Are the capacitors in the cpu power circuit intact?

Try to press down one by one with something soft and non-conductive, such as an eraser.
