Where can I get the simplest examples of programs (games)?

In the late 90s, I also went to the "circle" for programming, taught BASIC. The bottom line was that the teacher wrote us an example program in BASIC on the blackboard and we rewrote and launched it, and only after that we were allowed to play, with each lesson the program became more and more and so on.
Actually, the question itself is, in our time, what can interest a child in the same way, I think BASIC is absolutely not relevant anymore.
I would like to start in the same way, so that at first the child does not even delve into the code, but simply rewrites it and further complicates it, the main question is where to get these code examples and so that they are at least a little interesting, let's say the simplest games, I will take over the compilation process.
