When is it necessary to inherit from the Photon.PunBehaviour class?

I am creating a multiplayer game using unity + photon. And I don’t understand when inheritance of the Photon.PunBehaviour class is necessary, and when not. The documentation says that this inheritance is necessary to determine the callbacks that photon sends (for example, OnJoinedRoom), but everything works fine for me without inheritance.
