What work should be included in the portfolio?

I want to enter the freelance market in the direction of: PSD layout and subsequent integration into popular CMS. But I ran into the problem of not having a portfolio. How should a layout designer's portfolio look in general?

Can I take a few free psds and make them into cms as part of my portfolio? Or are there more efficient options?
