Virtualization
lik173, 2021-06-20 21:12:18

What VM software do you recommend?

Requirements:
Support x32bit system (as a host)
Full screen (no stripes and add-ons)
High. Performance (example: qemu gtk hangs, and qemu sdk stripes and bad text)
Host: Windows 10 Home x32bit
Support for older systems (as a guest): ms-dos, windows 1.x-win 2k

Like qemu, but better performance

With Qemu bad:
qemu-system-i386 -hda W98.img -cpu pentium3 -vga cirrus -boot c -m 512
Too slow

You can try VirtualBox, it's free, but with support for hardware virtualization and drivers for guest systems, starting with Windows 2k (for 9X - I don't remember if there are drivers or not, for Windows 3.11 and below this is not particularly relevant).
Offtopic: I wonder why in our time Windows 1.x or 2.x may be required?

@Zoominger

VMWare Player will drag Win98 normally, it will slow down on VB.
