What type of connection and what communication channel do such monsters as yandex, vkontakte, mail.ru use?

This means how they interact with providers, in particular, how they are given a communication channel, what bandwidth, etc. Thank you!

Dedicated communication channels in the DC from most of the backbone operators (we usually have TTK, RTK, in Europe there are still all sorts of Oranges and Tydes). They receive IP AS over BGP, which allows you to transfer addresses from provider to provider. There is usually a separate channel between DCs. Speeds of the order of 10 gigabits.

There is such a thing as an Internet traffic exchange point (IX), for example MSK-IX, SPB-IX, AMS-IX, etc. This is the point at which many channels come from different providers, and at which providers exchange traffic among themselves. Each of the providers participating in the traffic exchange independently organizes or leases a channel up to IX. The traffic exchange goes through the equipment and according to the standards supported by IX. Large services do not use the services of providers, but are present in IX independently, i.e. operate in the same way as service providers. At the same points, traffic can be exchanged with large trunk operators, which provide, incl. foreign traffic, or a channel can be leased to one of the foreign IX.
PS Through traceroute, you can often see through which traffic exchange points a packet passed to a particular resource.
