What to read on the subject of "system modeling"?

This semester, at my university, the discipline "system modeling" is taught. The teacher advised two books by L. Kleinrock - "Quuing Theory" and "Computing Systems". The first - the 75th year, the second - the 76th. I am confused by the "age" of this literature. In my opinion, the interpretation in them is quite tricky.
Actually a question. Is there anything written more recently and/or more accessible on the subject of systems modeling?
