What to install on a new computer?

The question is. Completely new computer, no OS, no software - nothing at all.

What should be installed on the computer, in addition to the OS? Maybe some drivers, utilities? Or is everything you need to work already included in the OS?

What do you think?

If the hardware is relatively new and the OS is Windows 10, then you can install Chrome or Firefox (or leave Edge - it's still on the Chromium engine). And of course, regardless of the browser, you need to screw some kind of AdBlock into the browser. You can also install a torrent client. The rest - as needed.

Install what you need, don't install what you don't need. If you are not building a computer for yourself, then ask a person how exactly he uses this computer, and dance from this.

Maybe it does - how do we know what kind of axis you have there and what kind of work.

It depends on what computer, what OS and what exactly is needed for work.

You will have to install the operating system, there are no options here. The only question is which one.
Almost nothing comes with windows, and what is, for example, applications from their store, is useless garbage, even to play video and audio you have to install a third-party application.
If you have linux, some popular ubuntu/debian in general with great community and good developer support, then you will have a built-in program catalog, by the way, expandable, unlike the Microsoft application store, which has a huge number of applications for solving various problems ( from editing videos and games to scientific or educational applications), in fact, the whole task here is to understand the name of this or that program that decides to achieve your goal, the operating system will be responsible for downloading the installation and updating of programs, when, as on windows, either it does it the user or each program in its own way (that's still a mess). Formally, these applications do not come with the OS, but since their installation is 1 click in the application, we can assume that they are part of the system, certainly not as it is customary in windows.
Unfortunately, starting from schools, and even after, for a number of reasons, people install windows, buy, but rather steal paid applications (it is logical when a 'photo editor' costs half a hundred thousand rubles a year), not wanting to explore alternatives (especially funny when they start comparing free ones with paid ones, finding fault with trifles), fall into a vicious circle, you only know how to windows, friends only windows, at school / university / at work only windows, it is very difficult to break out of it.
