What to do if the menu item in menuconfig is missing?

I updated the kernel, after the update the card reader did not take off, I got into the menuconfig and did not find the item:

Device Drivers -> MMC/SD/SDIO card support -> Realtek PCI-E SD/MMC Card Interface Driver

Found the problem in gentoo-sources-3.18.11, gentoo-sources-3.18.16, gentoo-sources-4.0.5, vanilla-sources-4.2.1, linux-4.2.1 (from kernel.org).
The item is in the gentoo-sources-3.14.31 core.
If you take the config from the kernel 3.14.31, then the item appears, if you do defconfig, then the item is not there either.
Driving in hands CONFIG_MMC_REALTEK_PCI=m does not help.
I've been picking this problem for 2 days, tell me what could be the problem.

@Shm13

The problem may be that the dependency of this item is disabled.
Find it in the new kernel in menuconfig by pressing /
Dependencies will be displayed there, if you enable them - the item will appear where it should be.

@MechanID

Try to enable "Realtek PCI-E Card Reader RTS5208/5288" in "Staging drivers" (it's definitely in 3.18.16)
