Well, what can I say.
i7-3930 drags a database that accepts 500 queries per day. in peak loads a little more than a lot of loads.
Before this floor, the database was spinning on the i7-4200K, which has fewer cores and a core cache of 8. And all 8 cores went into peaks at 100% cpu. And at that time she took 300 lyams a day after the change of prots, he can be said to be resting. Not even once did not even 1 core switch to the turbo boot frequency. I'm very happy with the processor. For myself, I concluded that the kernel cache solves very strongly.
just looked at the E3-1275 just the same characteristics as the i7-4200K processor that we have died. and 8MB of core cache is small and there are 8 cores, while the 3930 has 12, which is very convenient during the peaks of high loads of multi-threaded applications! I convinced myself! Xeon is certainly better than i7, but not from the 3rd family, but at least from the 5th =)
Take the i7-3930
Xeons are very different, e1275 is one of the weak models.
Core - a branch of processors for desktops, Xeon - a branch for servers, inside there are processors for every taste, from dual-core low-tdp 15WT to 6-8 nuclear monsters with tdp for 200.
In practice, the difference is only in ECC support and "survivability" under uncomfortable temperature conditions.
