What simple game console with ported games to choose?

We bought a new TV 110 cm diagonal and I want to buy a simple game console for children (7-8 years old).
Not Xbox or Sony Play Station, but something simpler, with the ability to download ported games from the Internet for free. Definitely with a pair of wireless joysticks.
But games are a class higher than just Tetris. Racing, simple strategies, chess, educational games.
Where to look? Something with the Chinese? I'm just a complete zero in games, I haven't played in a long time.

So buy a nettop, screw it to the back of the TV and there will be a computer with Windows and almost any emulators.
